Dear Patients,

There have been questions and concerns regarding the use of corticosteroids (as is done with injection therapy) and recent COVID-19 vaccinations. While there is no current evidence that epidural steroid therapy will impact the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine or place the patient at increased risk of adverse effects from the vaccine.

However, given the lack of direct evidence of COVID-19 vaccine efficacy in combination with these therapies, we must consider individual patients’ risks in modifying pain treatment plans including dosing strategies, steroid selection and treatment timing.

In an abundance of caution and to maximize patient safety and minimize the possibility of risk we ask that if you receive the COVID-19 vaccination to please make us aware and allow us to reschedule your procedure to be done two weeks after vaccination. This would provide the greatest reassurance that there would be no interaction and possible loss of efficacy of the vaccine.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
